I considered it but never took it any further. I had a good look at it before the midwife took it away though - just looked like liver!

Eating the placenta is rumoured to give the mother bountiful amounts of iron that is essential after blood loss during labour, it is also meant to be a great thing to put off post natal depression.
Many many cultures do it, it is not disgusting it is just a different way of living, why do people have to be so frightened of things they don't know?
And no, I haven't eaten any of my placentas, but it would not disgust me to do so.

I have never even wanted to, but in some 'primitive societies' it is done regularly ... the 'blood' and 'tissue' in the placenta can give the 'new mother' a 'boost' in nutrition when she first starts nursing her new infant. If you eat a 'good balanced diet' you should not 'need' the same type of 'boost' ... and the placenta is traditionally eaten 'raw' and right after the birth, and most women in the U.S. couldn't even stand the 'idea' of eating their placenta.

Hi
First understand the resons why would anybody eat placenta.
Animals do it to get the nutrition.
Animals do it because they may not be able to hunt right after pregnancy.
Animal eat it to produce milk thru it.
Animals are immune to any harmful effects of eating it raw.
Animals eat it to stop the spread of smell of placenta to save their newborn from pradetors.

AND humans dont eat because they dont have any natural pradetors and tehy have other various sources of nutrition.

There are cultures in the world who eat the placenta.

Those who advocate placentophagy in humans, mostly in modern America and Europe, Hawaii and the Pacific Islands believe that eating the placenta prevents postpartum depression and other pregnancy complications

I've never wanted to but I agree that it looks like liver. I have heard of people who have done it though. It's supposed to put nutrients that you lost in labor back in to you body and help you heal faster. I think it looks like some serious Fear Factor s h i t, but I guess you could try it if it's healthy...?

no - the thought of doing that makes my skin crawl !!! although me being a vegetarian doesn't help matters ! after i gave birth, the last thing on my mind was eating the placenta - or any other food for that matter. i was that tired & sore that all i wanted to do was rest. i never even got to see the placenta, although my partner described it to me.

That would be like eating my arm or something. I dont think it even looks close to being something I want to eat, that and liver is nasty and if it looks like liver then it would probably taste like it and yukkkk. I will be honest, I want to see mine when I have my baby just because I am weird like that, but I would never consider eating it.
