Jimmy tells Chloe that they should take a break because he knows that if she really wants to be with Clark, but she can't so he's second best. Lana had to have gone back later to get that metal thing because she didn't take it when she left with Lex. She did that because she looked at it when it was on the ground after Lex stabbed Clark with it and saw that it was bent. At this point I wouldn't say she thinks it has anything to do with the meteors but she already knew he was hiding something and this just brings her closer to figuring out what. I think now she may be on a mission to find out more.

yes Chloe and Jimmy broke up.
Lana kept the tool because she noticed that it had been mangled by the impact, and it didn't puncture Calrk. Lex most likely assumes that Clark let him go because he drove the too into Clark's side. Lana saw it and took it, as she suspects that its evidence that CK is a meteor freak.
