It's worthwhile because some of them are Liberal because they've been misled as to the FACTS. This is ESPECIALLY true on economic issues. Most Liberals are unaware that Treasury receipts have skyrocketed since the Bush tax cuts. They are unaware that absolute economic mobility has increased dramatically since the Reagan tax cuts. Many of them WANT to ignore reality on those issues because, pathologically, they would rather come down on a side that for some reason they identify with than be working with the actual facts. But some have just been spoonfed the class warfare drivel since they were kids. You know, the whole "poor got poorer" BS.

I was one of them. But I developed an academic interest in economics and finance and went to the actual data. And surprise surprise, I soon discovered that the class warfare line is complete crap and figured out exactly what Paul Krugman does to play games with the numbers to make it look like the opposite of what they actually say. And now I not only know better but I'm still angry about being lied to.

Some people do do the research if they are led to suspect that it will turn up something that is the opposite of what they have been told - there ARE some Liberals out there who are intellectually honest but have been misled, and they're worth rescuing. I was one of them!
