Yes what you have described does exist. They are used in convenient stores, banks, police stations. However there is an easy test that anyone can do which will identify a one-way mirror. If you reach out and put your finger on a regular mirror your reflection's finger appears to be touching yours. If you place put your finger on a one-way mirror, your reflection's finger will look like it's touching the BACK of the mirror. There will be a gap between your finger and your reflections finger. This gap will be the same as the thickness of the glass.

Yes! I think it's just called a one-way mirror, alot of banks and places like that have them so their customer can't see them but they can keep an eye on what's going on

Yes, in fact if you ever seen Rumble in the Bronx with Jackie Chan it shows one and it is an excellent example. Jackie is flexing his muscles and posing infront of what he thinks is just a mirror in a grocery store that he works in, but...little does he know his boss and couple of girls are standing behind it and of course laughing at him and the situation :o)....good movie.
