There are any number of water-borne parasites that will do stuff like that.

The one your teacher is probably refering to is the roundworm (Nematode) parasite Dracunculus.

Found in tropical and semi-tropical Asia, Africa, Indonesia and South America, Dracunculus has been a major parasite of humans for thousands of years.

Some have suggested that it is the 'fiery serpent' mentioned in the Bible, and it is probably the basis of the snakes entwined on a stick that was the staff of Hermes and is now used as the symbol for the medical profession (slowly winding out a parasitic worm on a stick was probably one of the major tasks of early hearlers).

Female Dracunculus can get up to about 0.8 meters (!!!) in length (close to two and half feet!!) - burrowing under the flesh. Ewww. Males 'only' get up to about 40 mm in length.

well, majority of the organisms in water are protozoans and they are parasitic. Yes there is a lot of parasites in water, that do terrible things to you.

But I dont know about alien looking skin, unless you mean scaly skin. or bursting out? no. But you can pass worms or cough them out accidentally

There are all kinds of water parasites, so just google water parasites and read about them. Also ask your teacher what the name of the water parasites he/she was telling you about then google that.

Yeah, there's all sorts of stuff in lake water. That's why you gotta boil it first to kill any germs. Now I don't know if there's any "Alien" type stuff.
