You may only castle if:
neither the king nor the rook have moved
there are no other pieces between the king and the rook
the king is not in check
castling will not put the king in check
castling will not move the king through check
If any of these conditions are false, you may not castle.

To castle it must be the first move by both King and and Rook
If the left Rook has move you must castle right side.
There must by no peice beween Rook and King in the 1 or 8 row.
The second is that no opposition pieces facing the zone so if they can move inbetween pieces you can't do it that move.
