You hormones are causing your ligaments and tendons to loosen. Primarily so that your hips can widen to allow the birth canal to widen ...so that you can let the baby pass.

It's a very freaky feeling...my hips still don't feel right and I had my son almost four months ago. Your feet will probably get wider too for the same reason.

You can take tylenol...but personally I just recomend to grin and bear it...the less crap you put into your body during the pregnancy (and after if you're nursing) the better.

yeah i so know how that is...been there done that. your hips are spreading so there is room for the baby. a painful, none the less an important process. some have mentioned tylenol..that does work. a warm bath or a heating pad applied to the hips or back has had good results....just don;t use it for long periods so to not raise your body temperature. if you can rope anyone into a massage,...DO it. :) even if it doesn't do your HIPS any good, it'll be good anyhow! ;) i never tried special stretches or excersises as someone mentioned but they sound like they COULD be bennificial! good luck.

I also had hips pain while pregnant, even now 6 months after I still get it once in a while. I believe this is due to the back being more arched than usual, plus the extra weight. My lower back became very stiff. A nice back massage by my husband provided some relief, also I stretched my lower back and my legs at night before going to sleep (the pain was always sharper on the side I was sleeping on). hope that helps!

oh but when you are pregnant, stretch very LIGHTLY this is important!

That's your hips stetching to make room for a big ole' healthy baby! The only thing that helped me was stretching a little in the morning, and lots of rest with your feet propped up. Once they stop stretching (hopefully soon) you should feel better! Also, check with your doctor, he may give you the go-ahead to take a Tylenol or two. Congrats!

Your pelvic bones are slowly spreading and making room for the baby to pass through during the upcoming birth. It happens slowly, but often there is some pain due to the movements of the bones and joints. This is normal. Also normal is some lower back pain (also caused by shifting pelvic bones).

A WONDERFUL book for pregnant women is "What to Expect When You Are Expecting". My OB/GYN actually gives this to his patients, but you can buy it on amazon.com or at a book store. There will be many questions come up and this book will help answer them, and put your mind at ease.

Best of luck to you and your baby.

Your hips hurt because they are speading about this time. This happens so that your body with be able to fit that little baby through that area. It may hurt a little bit, but it wont last too long dont worry. It happened to me and it will happen to everyone who is pregnant. Hang in there and good luck!

I believe your hips hurt so bad because they are spreading and preparing for birth. My lower back has been killing me the past couple weeks! I believe it's the same thing - the body is stretching!

There's a hormone called Relaxin that causes your joints to become softer especially around your pelvis and back. Make sure you exercise and have enough calcium. Other than that, there's not much you can do.
