Ok, when GM omar minaya signed scott Schoeneweis for over $10 mil, i have begun to agree with others that this is getting out of hand. And what about Ted lilly signing 4 yrs at $40??? are you kidding me!!!???? Lilly is your classic example of your "average" pitcher. Does what everyone else does, but nothing extraordinary. Any one agree?

I admit I'm no millionaire so of course I think they get paid to much. But the fact is baseball is a business. It's entertainment. Players put butts in the seats and sell merchandise. The market seems to bear the salaries so sure they deserve it. Baseball is a long season and for the guys that perform they deserve to be paid accordingly. For a guy like Carl Pavano that rarely pitches at any level and lies to his team (or flat out fails to report) about injuries and the such maybe something should be done about that. The players union would never stand for it, but in a perfect world there would be some rule I'd think. I say what ever they can make more power to them.

It's not just baseball. I think that all athletes make a ridiculous amount of money. These people are making millions upon millions of dollars for going out a few months a year and playing games that are going on the back yards of people all over the world.
It's shameful when you think that there are police officers, fire fighters, paramedics, EMTs, nurses, and teachers are making crap to do what these athletes can't do. Can you imagine a world without police, fire fighters, medics, teachers, or nurses. Scary isn't it, and most of them make around $40 or $50 grand a year.

They are not actually to high. The problem in baseball is that the money is guaranteed no matter how poorly you play the team has to pay out your full contract even if they cut you. Hence the fact there are so many journeymen players in the big league because teams would rather have highly paid players doing something than having to cut them and pay them whatever money is left on there contract.

any athlete in the bigs of any sport is paid way too much. i know in the minors they are paid very very little like what you'd make working at McDonalds. (Back to the bigs) you have to ask yourself where does all the money come from? do they seriously get all that on ticket and concession sales? its amazing to me that and the fact that you get paid so much too just play a game... it it just boggles my mind. 10 mill is way too much for anybody. Schoeneweis is a solid pitcher but i mean he's making what the top athletes should be getting at the most! i know when David eckstein first hit the bigs he made 500,000 that year. I mean seriously thats a TON OF MONEY. none of us will see any kind of salary like that. the only chance we could make that money is through years upon years of saving and investing! it is really really out of hand.

I think ALL pro sports salaries are overrated, as well as actors, actresses, and entertainers.

One should not receive millions of dollars to ENTERTAIN. What about people who actually have jobs that allow society to function? Like police, teachers, construction, firefighters?

Blame our crazy, market-driven society. If you pay to watch the games, they will pay the salaries. If everyone boycotts, then they won't be able to charge crazy admission prices so that they can pay those clowns $50 mil a year.

Baseball salaries are way out of control. The days when salaries were commensurate with talent have been gone for years. When you can pay a bum like Gil Meche 55 million dollars then something is wrong.

Utley just got 85 million for 7 years.

Not just baseball, any sports salaries are way too high same with actors and actresses.

I think all sports players are way overpaid, they get paid so much more than the jobs that matter like Doctors and Teachers

which brings me to my next point, teachers should get paid more
