I am continually having dreams about losing someone close (child, husband, friends). I always find them, but the dreams are creepy. In one, my child was taken by a stranger and we found her some days later. I woke up crying and shaking uncontrolably. Can anyone (preferably someone with medical background) tell me what is going on?

sounds like anxiety. are you anxious in your waking life? worrying a lot? maybe you have unresolved fears about loss. did you lose someone close to you and it was completely out of your control? Are you worrying about losing other things (objects) in your life? have you recently lost something big (person, thing, etc)?

If you could teach your self to have lucid dreams, that could help to. Lucid dreaming is where you are aware that you are dreaming and you can change your dreams. It's not that hard, actually, and for some people it can be very easy to learn to do. For me, one day I just realized while i was dreaming that i was dreaming and from that day on, I've been able to control my dreams. Not always to the same extent, but nearly all the time I'm aware that I'm dreaming and can make certain things happen.

I'm no doctor but I have heard it said that dreaming of losing someone often symbolizes losing an aspect of that person. As your child is growing up, for example, aspects of their less mature personality are left behind. This needn't be a negative thing. When people leave school they will often dream of the loss or death of schoolmates or of former colleagues when leaving a job.
