I came across a news article the other day showing how scientists have a clock that's all about how far we are from the end of civilization as we know it. (Did anyone else see that in the news? Anyone got a link? I think it was advanced to two minutes to midnight or something like that.) Whether it be climate change (and the human effects thereof - never mind the human causes), or asteroid impact or Nuclear Armageddon - or even some killer avian flu.
Here we are now with Bush 'sending messages' to Iran because he refuses to have diplomatic relations with them. Sure, the middle east is a powder keg just waiting to ignite, but at this rate the U.S. (under Bush's white house) are gonna wind up being the ones to light the fuse.

I don't have the link--but its callled the "Doomsday Clock."

Whetherwe end up with Bush's wars turning into a WW3 is still up for grabs. I think there's little question that if he's allowed to continue on his preset course, that's probably what will happen. The question is can Congress constrain him enough?

I've got a lot of sympathy for those in Congress right now (even some Republicans!) They are between a rock and a hard spot. On the one hand the Congress--with the exception of a few neoconservative die-hards--know that real change and getting out of Iraq is vital. On the other hand, they don't want to force a constitutional crisis. And they are not going to block funding if there's any chance it will endanger the troops--a fact that Bush has already made it plain he intends to use to blackmail Congress into fundding the war, using our troops as his hostages--because he knows that the Democrats (and legitimate Republicans) do value the lives of our soldiers, even if he doesn't.

Not a pretty picture.

I saw the same thing on the news. I would be more worried by the fool in south america, Venezuela. he can & will cause more problems than anything in the middle east.

We ARE in WWIII and its BECAUSE Bush is in the White House and not some bleeding heart liberal, that it is being fought in the Middle East and not here.

there will be no world war 3 anything soon. Iran wants nukes but they're not stupid enough to ever use them. Think about what will happen to them if they do.
