I always knock if I'm not in my own home and I'm trying to teach my kids to knock as well so I should probably knock more often. I was raised to knock and have shamed my mother I'm sure.

If it's a door to someone's private space, yes. Obviously not the door to the supply closet or something, but if someone has closed their office or bedroom door you must knock.

In fact, even if the door is open it's polite to give a little rap on the door to announce yourself if the person does not notice you coming in.

i have that same problem, only it's worse because i share a room with my twin, Amy. at least she knocks, and so does my brother and my sis Jenna. but my evil sis Kayley NEVER does!!!!!! the lock doesn't work... and my DAD never knocks, and niether does my own mother! parents have a really bad habit of forgetting things. but Kayley does it on purpose to annoy me. grr...
