My girlfriend and I just went to winter formal, and they didn't let us take pictures because we were a lesbian couple. How do I fix this policy?

Yes, they were the pictures you pay for.

Um, I can't tell my parents... they don't know im lesbian and are strict christians. And I'm not going to let it go. If I do, things like this will keep happening.

Yes, I belong to the GSA in my school. However, its basically run by students, and it was started last year as a kid's senior project.

Publicity. Contact your local news station(s). Usually they love those kind of stories. If they do agree to interview you and do a story, be sure to present your case calmly and reasonably.
If you come off all angry and militant and screaming about your rights, you'll tend to turn people off--they'll just think, "Yeah, I can see how they were in a hurry to brush off that chick." But if you seem exactly like every other kid in the school, except that you happened to show up with another girl, it will support your point that it was unreasonable to treat you any differently. Be surprised and confused about what happened, and have other students there who support you.

Write a letter to the schoolboard, and try to be as calm and logical about it as possible. You needn't make it just about gay rights, unless you want that to be the point -- you could point out that even people who go to the formal with their sibling or best friend should be allowed to have a memento of the event, and that not to allow it is somehow insisting on a dating paradigm (only those who are dating matter) in a world when some people just don't feel like dating, or dating by those old rules. Everyone in the district (or everyone who bought tickets to the formal) is being charged to make the formal photographs available, so everyone in the district (or who bought tickets) should be able to have their picture taken if they attend the dance. Try that.
I hope you otherwise had a great time.

Wow! I can't believe that goes on. What is the harm in a picture? If I were you, I'd write a letter to the editor of the paper, or contact the newspaper or a television station and tell them what happened. It's a decent human interest story, and it would make the photographer (or whoever refused you) look like an _**.

This is an outrage. I would suggest going to the school superintendent, if your school and/or school principal does nothing to change it. This is discrimination and should not be tolerated. As for your parents finding out that you are a lesbian, that is just a risk you are going to have to take if you are really looking for justice. Good luck and don't give up.

That is tough. Talk to your parents, both sets, tell them you are angry about it, maybe you should consider taking it to the media but are concerned about too much scrutiny and the consequences. Ask friends and other supporters what they think, give the school a chance along with adults to explain the reason to you.Contact gay rights groups in your area for help.
Or you could just forget about it and move on. The choice is yours as are any reprecussions or any good things that come out of it.
Good luck.

You could contact an LGBT group to help you take a stand. Also, if you make an issue out of it, there's a good chance that your parents will find out.

Hopefully someone from one of those organizations might be able to help you step-by-step through this fight.

You complain to the school, the media and in the courts about this blatent discrimination. Make sure your local TV and newspapers hear about this - this kind of bigotry is just the type of thing they like to exploit.
Enlist PFLAG, the ACLU and other rights organizations. They have web sites and phone numbers for you to get help.
Good luck!

You went to the dance with your girlfriend and you're not out yet? I wouldn't expect that situation to last. Stop worrying about the pictures and start worrying about what's going to happen when the news makes it around to your parents.

Tell them you are prepared to publicly accuse them of descrimination unless they change their policy. Other than that, all you can do is wait for the world to wake up and smell the goddamned coffee.
