It does happen, but very rarely. When it happens it's usually because the girl took other medication that interfered with it, or took it at the wrong time, accidentally skipped it... happened to my friend just the other day. Her case: medication- so ask your doc before you take anything! : )

My friend fell pregnant whilst taking the pill (she is now 28 weeks gone!) and didn't realise until she was 16 weeks. She actually was convinced that she had cancer and had all sorts of tests done at hospital (no pregnancy test, though!). She was devastated, thne concerned that there would be something wrong with the baby, but is now delighted (especially as it is a boy - she already has 3 girls!). I'm not sure which pill she was taking.

Chances of getting pregnant while on birth control pills is very low. You can get pregnant while on them if your not taking them right or if you miss a pill.

If you take your pill at the same time every day your chances are like 1%. If you miss a pill occasionally or take them at different times (within 3 hours) your chances are around 8%.

Taking other medications can affect the effectiveness of the pill, so be sure you let your doctor know you're on the pill whenever s/he prescribes something else for you, especially antibiotics which can increase the chances of becoming pregnant greatly.

As long as you are taking your pills everyday there is less than a 1% chance of getting pg. Don't miss a pill as this can cause a change in your body and can cause a unplanned pg. Good luck.

More than a 99.9% chance that you won't get pregnant. However, if you are not taking your pills regularly, your chance for pregnancy increases more than 10 fold. last i heard, it was 76% chance that you would not get pregnant if you have missed 2 or more pills in one month.

You need to read the pamphlet that comes with your pill to find out its rate of effectiveness. The pill is about 96-99% effective, when taken correctly--which not everyone does. Also, you need to know what else can lessen the effectiveness--alcohol, other prescription drugs, and over the counter drugs (and illegal drugs).
