I don't know any African-Americans who like country. I HATE country.
I was wondering if there were any African-American country singers. If not, why aren't there? Do we as a culture just dislike it? Is it jist a coincedince?

This question is not meant to offend anyone. I don't want someone saying "I love country u suck" or something stupid like that.

Yep, there are lots of African-Americans who like Country music, or who are involved in the music industry. But there are only a few who have made it big.

It all depends on what you grew up with, I guess. I had several friends in Bristol TN that listened to Country music when they were growing up and ended up working in the country music industry - where they still work. People like what they like, no matter what their culture is.

Charley Pride :
Pride was born in Sledge Mississippi, one of eleven children of poor sharecroppers. His father named him "Charl Frank Pride", but because of a typing error on his birth certificate, he was legally born as Charley Frank Pride.[1]As a teenager, he began to play the guitar. One of his life-long dreams was to become a baseball player. He eventually joined the ***** American League, and also played minor league baseball for the Memphis Red Sox. He suffered an injury to his throwing arm, which convinced him that he couldn't make it to the major leagues.

After knowing he would not be able to make a career in baseball, Pride decided to turn his attention to country music. When playing baseball, he had heard much encouragement to join the music business from country music singers like Red Sovine and Red Foley. Soon he was working towards this career. In 1958, in Memphis, Tennessee, Pride visited Sun Studios and recorded some songs.

Troy Coleman (Cowboy Troy ) is an African-American country singer. He graduated from Skyline High School in the Dallas Independent School District. Subsequently, he completed a bachelor's degree in psychology at The University of Texas. Prior to his career as a singer, he worked as the manager of a Dallas Foot Locker.

Although some consider Pride the first black country singer, others preceded him. A harmonica player named DeFord Bailey was a star of the Grand Ole Opry in the 1920's.

I know blacks who like country music. And yes, there are black country singers. It's just the simple fact that what's portrayed in the mass media is often thought to be how the world really is.

What do you think?

Skin colour is a VERY poor predictor of musical taste!

Of course there are black people who like country music, just as there are Mongolian people who like clogs!

There are probably a roughly equal number of people with very little musical taste across all ethnic groups!

BTW-There are an ENORMOUS number of black people outside the US, and almost none of them are "African-Americans", LOL!

Some I do, some I don't. As a human being first, I like music. My tastes are quite eclectic ranging from R& B, blues, jazz, gospel. world music, opera, classical, reggae, latin, rap, etc.

Right now I'm listening to the "Dixie Chicks" new CD.

Music is universal!

actually i used to date a black guy who loves country music. me personally, i hate it. the words drag and i really do not like it at all. i do find some of the words to be nice but it would have to be sang in a different way for me to like it. it is just the style of country music that i don't care for.
and i hate it when country music singers take an R&B song and sing it in country style, it just ruins the song.
