Scroll down to Miguel Karlin. Since Hispanic IS NOT A RACE, the statistics show him as a white person commiting a crime but on the news it makes it look as though a "racially" hispanic man commited the crime.
It seems as though politicians are palying thier cards both ways. They make it seem as though hispanics are committing crimes, but jotting it down as white people commiting crimes to balance the scales.

You learn something every day. Any thoughts?

Well as you already said, Hispanic is not a race. People of Middle Eastern descent are also considered White on the US census. There are many groups that fall under White that are discriminated against because of their skin color.

I'm usually one to agree that various institutions will work together to get the best of both worlds in terms of racial discrimination, but in this case I disagree because I don't think anyone put any thought into it. The forms that people use in various agencies to document their clients are based off of the census questions. So the options under "race" are the same options you would find in the census. So the police department is checking white to follow the census categories, and the newspeople are showing the face of someone who looks "ethnic" in order to get higher ratings. They're functioning independently from one another.

What I think it's funny is that obviously Miguel Karlin is NOT white. He obviously has lots of native american blood. If they think that Miguel Karlin is an example of a white hispanic, than it's no surprise to me that they don't want to recognize that some hispanics are simply white.

Miguel Karlin would NOT be considered white in a "Hispanic country", he would be considered mestizo.

looks white to me, Hispanic refers to a language, people from spain, bolivia or tierra del fuego are hispanic, some of then are white as Icelanders, some are brown 5% black, 10, 12, whatever, 5% American native, 10%, 12 whatever you can imagine, it is use less trying to find words to describe peoples looks, or trying to find results based on race it is not possible, we have not races but individuals, you can not make any conclusion based on races
