Yes perfume does go off and loose its scent with time. When your wife gets a new bottle of perfume smell the difference between identical perfumes.
Some aftershaves smell pungent to. Shower gel, bath creme and soap to name but a few also loose their scent. Some products even show an expire date or length of time once opened, I have a shampoo that gives the time as 12months. You'll be surprised when you look at the bottles in your bathroom. How sad I had time to notice!!!

Yes perfumes do go off but they do not lose their scent as such. They tend to smell like an overpowering room spray. However a decent perfume like Chanel, Guerlain or Estee Lauder takes a while to go off but ones like gucci or d&g which are expensive but not necessarily the best quality can go off within a few months.

Yes. The alcohol evaporates therefore it loses its original scent. The shelf life of an opened bottle of perfume/cologne is 6 months because of the evaporation.

Yes, some perfumes do either get strong smelling because of alcohol base or just dont smell good after a few years. Sometimes our smeller just changes too... Be a pal and just let your wife have a new fragrance now and then,,,, we like to smell good and it makes us feel better...... dont you think she smells nice when she is wearing it.?

perfume does 'go off' after a few months, especially if it is not packaged properly. if you leave it out it will make it go off quicker. don't leave it where light can get to it. I know it's not nice to leave in the packaging but that's the best way to keep it.
the same with make up this goes off to.

It is most certainly true - you give a bottle a sniff after a few years on the back shelf and you will see.

Sorry, the wife is right. It does go off, sometimes after only a few months.

The container it comes in is important. Temperature too.
Chemical composition matters as well in case of exposure to light but generally no.
Out of date in this case could be the scent itself is no longer to your wife's liking,so you might wish to call her bluff.

sort of. i have like every perfume like ever. (truely, im in the business and desiners give them up to me). the sent changes through the years. i mean it depends on the kind of perfume. like body spray is so light that it will deff. fade. but the strong sents like chanel, they will change (and not in a good way)...
