Ever hear of Assault and Battery? Of course fighting is illegal. Well except in things like boxing, where that is the sport and the two sides agree to the "fight", or in the course of other sports.

The act of fighting itself is not illegal, however, charges can be placed against an individual for starting a fight or for causing harm in one. If charges are not pressed, then everyone will go on their way. The exception is abuse (spousal, child, domestic violence) as the individual does not have to press charges for the state to charge a person with a crime.

Define fighting! There are legal fights and illegal fights! Controlled fights are legal, uncontrolled fights are illegal.

That all depends on the type of fighting. For NATO troops to fight in Afghanistan is "legal". for Fred Bloggs and Joe Jones to have punch-up outside the pub on Friday night is illegal - but they do it anyway, and there is rarely a policeman around.

Professional fighting isn't illegal in many states.

Two people fighting because they are mad at each other is illegal.

Depends what you mean by fighting. War can be legal. A brawl isn't. A boxing match or similar is legal. Assault with weapons isn't. If you're under 16 and it's not a 'serious' fight (no-one gets badly injured) then it's possible you'd get away with it. Depends on circumstances, really.

Yes---each person in a fight is committing assault and battery on the other, unless it's an arranged match with rules.

If it is agreed upon and not in public, then fighting could be considered legal (a la a "fight club" style event).

Otherwise, assault and battery charges could arise, or a public disturbance charge if its consensual and in public.

yes and no. It can be assault or disorderly conduct. The cop told me that we are both adult and as long as we did not hurt one another to bad or make a big public seen he would not have fined me.But he did because of we fought in public. It is up to the cops discretion if he charges you or not....
