OK...
-with cats there are breeds but the cutest are the mixed because i think they are cute and i am an owner of 3
names for cats depend on what they look like...myfirst cat is named tuxedo because hes black and white and it looks like hes wearing a tuxedo.

-with dogs if you like little dogs you should get a chihuahua, yorkie, jack russel terrier (they tend to be really hyper) or a shih tzu (i own one)...

- with larger dogs should get a german sheperd (i own one...very obedient), great dane, labrador...oh yeah names are the same...with dogs it depends on their appearance n their personality

Cats and Dogs are excellent...
cats love to cuddle and be there for you when ur down n dogs do the same. they even do it when ur sick...its like they feel ur feelings too...

GOOD LUCK!!! HOPE YOU ENJOY WHUCH EVER ONE YOU CHOOSE.

You should get a dog that matches your "energy level" If you are active, something like a Lab or terrier would be good. If you are more of a "couch potato" get a dog that is more laid back and calm. A dog book from a library or book store can tell you a lot about the different breeds and what they are like/same with cats. I would be careful if you plan on grown pets verses a kitten and pup. When they are little, they can adjust to each other much better, but I have just adopted a year old cat and she does great with my three dogs!! Animal shelters are a wonderful place to find a dog-take your time and choose carefully. Both pets will live a long life and you want to be happy with them and them with you. Spend time with the dog or cat you are looking at to see if you like how it behaves and responds to you and so on---well, I could write a book and there are good books on how to pick pets available again at the book store or library!

If you have some extra cash to spend, invest in a Ragdoll cat. They get along very well with other animals. Although, a lot of domestic mixes get along just fine with dogs. Try to stay away from (dog) Golden retreivers and German Shepards- they have many, many health problems. If you don't get a puppymill dog, miniature poodles are great! They don't shed, and they are very loyal. The darker the color of the poodle, the friendlier they are. Just be warned that poodles are more prone to bad hips, catarax, and UT issues. A mutt would be a good way to go to stay away from common breed-related health issues.
