Of course there are the extremely unique jobs like athletes, entertainers, actors, writers, etc.

The jobs that are more obtainable to the ambitious and hard working:

Investment Bankers: If you can land a position at one of the top investment banking firms you have potential to be extremely wealthy.

Lawyers: In a top firm in a large metropolitian area make very good money.

CEO / CFO / COO. If you can work all the way up the corporate latter there is a ton of money.

Mutual Fund Managers

Entreprenheurs who have success in a good growing industry.

Succesful financial advisors who charge a % of the profits, but that requires practice, knowledge and discipline.

The profession that pays the most with the lesser investment and less skills is, sadly, the oldest "profession".

In the long run, the profession that pays the most is social/political acivist: angels (and God) really dig them. Capitalistic pursuits are frowned upon unless you apply your profits to humanitarian aid.

But if all you're looking for is money, I'd suggest a business degree.

I was told that a Doctor of Anesthesiology is the highest paid profession. A Dentist does really well also.

I don't know about the US but up here in Canada you can make quite a good living working in the trades. I know an HVAC (Heating,Venting,Airconditioning) guy that's making $100,000+/year. Not bad for no schooling.
