He means he has an old Monte Carlo with a motor that he's messed with a lot and now it runs well.

If that's the boyfriend talking, he needs to be dragged away from the car and fed a pizza so he will sit down long enough to have a sane conversation with you.

If that's the salesman talking, he's trying to make a twenty year old car sound good.

305 is the displacement of the engine in cubic inches, and would relate to what is now a 5.0L engine. HO just stands for high output, which just means that the engine some extra tuning straight from the factory to give it the performance of a larger engine, and an edelbrock intake is just an aftermarket part, which would have been put on there to increase performance, same with boring it 30 over, which is shaving metal off the insides of the cylinder walls, which will boost power because it will increase the displacement, making it larger than the 305 it was from factory, it's a decent engine, seems to me like you are thinking of buying the car, it should have pretty good performance, but bad on gas, but one thing you should be aware of is that when someone makes performance modifications to their vehicle, there is a good chance that the vehicle has been bagged pretty hard.

85-87 Monte Carlo was offered with an SS package. It was a special paint, interior and HO305 engine combo. The car was OK, but the 305 can't take much abuse. If you ran the 305 hard, it'll smoke and tear up. Most ppl swapped 350s into the cars when the 305 died. This guy may have rebuilt the 305. A 305 SS Monte Carlo is collectable, but only worth real money if its numbers-matching and in good restored shape.

it is a 305 cubic inch high output engine, bored 30 over,is 30thoudandths of an inch over standard size, edelbrock intake is the brand of the intake manifold, carb runs well very peppy" means it has a quick take off, all of this is pretty much useless unless your looking for a performance car, I agree with the previous poster if it is someone trying to sell you a car he is trying to make an old car sound good

305 is how much horsepower it has
a bored engine means that it was drilled out to let in more air when the engine is firing on each stroke of the piston
(piston is a cylinder in the engine that up and down usually in a car there are 4, 6, or 8 and with a 305 it is 8)
this works with the carb which lets in the gas
so it means that it is a 305 hp w/ a bored engine and edelbrock air-intake and carb
so the 2 edelbrock parts help with getting the gas and air to the engine to make it go fast

whether it is a good car depends on a lot of factors mainly the miles on the motor and the mechanics records of the work done

It means the engine is a 305 cubic inch V-8, 8 cylinder, each cylinder is bored .030" over the stock size to clean the walls of imperfections, high output, edelbrock is a name brand for performance parts. It sounds like a pretty good engine for a monte carlo. It's probably got good acceleration.

Very Peppy would mean that it runs very good without lag in throttle response. That's alright for a monte carlo; though you would have alot more horses with a 350 bored, intake, and carb.!!!

I have a stock 305 engine in my 1991 Caprice and its wonderful!. I have never had any trouble with it and it now has over 175000 miles on it. it uses no oil whatsoever and runs just like new! starts first crank even in 40 below 0 weather! I have taken good care of the engine throughout its life. I highly recommend the 305 and If mine ever wares out I will replace it with another one just like it!!!!

It means the cylinders have been bored out .030" and been fitted with over-sized pistons, and is equipped with a high performance intake manifold and carb.
