I am intelligent enough to know that the world is full of other intelligent people.
If anything, I tend to overestimate the intelligence of others until they do or say something that makes me realize they aren't as intelligent as I thought they were.
I would rather, however, err on the side of over-estimating than be a person who goes around believing I'm smarter than everyone else.
I pretty much travel in circles where the people are pretty capable and intelligent. Of course, everyone has his/her own areas of "specialty" when it comes to knowing more about one subject or another - but that's not general intelligence, that's "specialty".

I always think I'm pretty average and then I blurt out something that make people look at me funny when I blurt out something about comparative literature or the latest book I'm reading (which happens to be about Quantam and String theory right now). Come on! These books are at Barnes and Noble, I can't be the only one reading them.
Maybe I am smarter, maybe I just read more (maybe that makes me smarter?). What can I say, I just like ideas.

Naturally I always think I may be right and they may be wrong at first. But we gravitate to our own level and groups. Everyone has a different kind of intelligence based on their life experiences and opportunities. There are street smarts and book smarts and then there's the one who has both. We need us all!! @8-)

I wonder how the average man (or woman) remembers how to breathe. They seem to think that global warming can't be caused by human activity and that commercials are a good source of information.

The average person in America really isn't very smart concerning
moral issues, political issues or even social issues. Most rely
on opinions of their peers for information, which in most cases
they have the same education level and ideology.

They are as smart as they are supposed to be; only for that time period in which they are in now, cause a second later they will be a second smarter than what they were before.
