This has bugged me since I got SI when I was 12 and mom took my swimsuit issue. I just don't see how they got their stuff so together that they are 3 months ahead, magazine people should run the country then. BUt seriously how does this happen? I mean I just dont' get it?

People won't buy a magazine that appears to be old, so they pre-date them.

Then they are magically transported back via time travel.

They do that so they can be sold longer. If they were honest and printed January on the magazine would you buy it in February.

I get upset when at the end of they year they publish the 2007 World Almanac. It isn't 2007, it covers 2006 but would people buy it in 2007 if it said 2006? How long until you see 2008 cars?

Because for years, most magazines were sold on newsstands. The owners of the stands would pull magazines that were out of date, so if your magazine came out in December with a December cover date, it might get to the stand say, Dec. 7, and would be pulled in January to make room for other magazines meaning that your mag had about three weeks to sell or be sent back to you. If, however, your magazine had a cover date of January and it arrived in December, it'd stay out through January, giving you seven weeks to sell. Plus, people like to think they're getting the LATEST.
