I am going through the hiing process and the next step is the Psychological exam. I have heard that there are five psychiatrists who sit there and yell in your face for five hours straight. Is that true? What can I expect?

I've never sat for this one, but they do something similar in the military. When you get higher security clearances or assignments with higher stress, they want to know that you can handle them.

With security clearances, they want to be assured that you're not going to be vulnerable to selling secrets to the commies. You have to have very low debts, you have to have moral character, and you have to have a record that doesn't include rebelling against authority.

Some assignments have a high level of stress due to being demanding, being intellectually challenging or due to the insane level of regulation. In the Navy, nuclear technicians aren't the PhD engeineer types, they're just maintenance men, really, but they have a high failure rate because they just can't follow orders. The job is extremely demanding and detail oriented, and because you're working with such a dangerous system, you have to perform your work flawlessly all the time. The most successful are often anti-social, tight-a$ $, geeks that everyone else makes fun of, and they are paid well, offered officer commissions early and spend very little time at lower ranks because of their unique qualities.

High stress jobs sometimes demand people who aren't married, people who can do a lot of things at the same time, or people who can handle crucial subjective decisions all the time.

Some administrative jobs, like our embassy duty positions, actually prefer married service members, longer overseas commitments and the ability to work without supervision.

So I suppose when you sit for your exam, you're going to be scored for later assignments. I can't imagine you failing and getting the boot. Instead, they'll file reports predicting how you'll react in certain situations and your assignments in the future will be based partly on those recommendations.

Some jobs you just won't get if they're afraid you'll shoot your boss. For other jobs you'll be highly recommended if you have a particular temperence in your personality that they need.

My test consisted of a very lengthy written test. We then discussed the results of the test for about 30 - 45 minutes.
