absolutely unfair. lets start making a holiday for human kind and all races to get along day. or something like that. I think it is ridiculous to single out just one group. What about the American Indians. It was their land first anyways. Every race has gone thru some kind of pain or hardship but we only single out one culture. To go out of our way to be fair is unfair.

I don't think it is. Were blacks treated terribly in the past? Yes. Was that right? Not in the least. But where is the drive for Native American History month? They were the race that white settlers ruthlessly killed off, including throught the use of the first biological weapon (they gave Native Americans blankets that belonged to people sick with small pox in case you didn't know). Where is the push for Caucasion American month? Caucasions settled here against all odds, bringing current technology to the New World. What about Latino American month? And Asian American? And Indian American? Etc.

I would support an American History month. But segregating races and giving them a month to themselves does not promote the unity that many of black America's leaders are always pushing for. It seperates them. Talk about the wonderful things MLK did in February, but don't turn this into a "bad things happened to us in the past, and therefore we deserve X" type of argument.

I don't believe it is fair at all...then again, life isn't fair. If you tried to start Caucasian History Month I'm sure someone would throw a fit. In Middle School I tried to start the Caucasian Club. And I was shot down immediately by the school administrators because, "The children of other races would feel like the couldn't join." Yet, there was a Latino/Latina Club, African-American Club, and an Asian Club although I can't remember the name of that one. I think you see where I'm going with this and I don't really want to drag on and on. So in case you didn't notice, I don't really like the whole double standard thing...

seriously.. i think its ridiculous I always have... why is there no american indian month.. I get it we treated black people poorly about 100 years ago.. but isn't martin luther king day enough? What about womens history month? Or Asian history month?? WHEN ARE THEY??? If there was a white history month and NO black history month you KNOW they would be complaining.. so shouldn't it be equal? Its all about equality well Having a whole month isn't equal to the other races and cultures WHO GET NONE!!! But that's my opinion and if i get hate mail I dont care b/c that is how I REALLY FEEL!

Skin Color, Yes...but a month dedicated to a culture and its struggles is definetley fair! Black History month commemorates the struggles of african americans in this country while hispanic heritage month is a time to recognize the many contributions of Latinos to life in the United States. This is done daily with American history across all schools in the United States.

Sure it makes sense that their culture was enslaved but what about the history of other people's cultures? They don't get an ENTIRE month dedicated to them. They maybe get a chapter in a history class textbook but that's about it. And the whole month is talking about EQUALITY! pssh.

No it's not...it's not fair to other races or genders for that matter. You know women were oppressed too and I don't see a month dedicated to the culture of women.

honestly...no, I'm not sure its that fair. I admire those who fought and struggled and made ground-breaking history and I believe their lives and accomplishments should DEFINITLY be celebrated but I think it should be part of American History and not just black history. By simply calling "black history" sort of implies that it only had an affect on "blacks" which isn't really the case. It had an affect on everyone in this nation...black, white, asian, latino, everyone.

By the way....when is American History month??

Y'know the old saying "The squeeky wheel gets the grease"

Black in America were treated badly many many years ago, and some would argue that little has changed in some ways. That point aside, singling out one ethnic group can do more to ostrisize them than to actually get them to meld with others.

I don't think its about skin Colour .? I think maybe about culture. this allows people to understand each other and where everyone comes from. I think colour doesn't stand for anything. You don't have to be a type of skin colour to come from a certain country. Your skin doesn't tell people where your from or what you re about, its your culture and country that teaches people about where and who your are. Its so easy nowadays to be offended and mark everything down as racist, but I think that's ignorant of such people. So me i think culture month would teach people more.
