In my opinion, a farmer is a businessman like any other. I understand he has to face the possibility of harsh weather, low yields, price fluctuations, etc...but every industry has variables as well.

If I buy a 7-11 franchise, and don't sell quite as many Slurpees as I had originally thought I would, the feds are highly unlikely to send me a check. Why should farmers be treated any differently?

Save your breath about protecting the source of our food, as the overwhelming majority of food sold in the US is produced by agricultural corporations, not Ma and Pa Farmer. While I'm sure that CEO will bemoan the loss of his subsidy, the fact remains he's not likely to quit producing corn.

It's welfare for American farmers. Canadian farmers compete with American farmers and they don't get welfare.

You probably will not like my answer but they should be subsidized.They do it to keep farmers in buisness.If there are no farmers what do we eat?The next time you want to complain about it dont do it with your mouth full!

take away their subsidations and a tomato will be $6 in january...
