Yes, guinea pigs do need salt/mineral wheels! They don't get the right amount of salt when we take them away from their native enviornment! My guinea pig has a salt wheel. I must admit, he hardly ever touches it (I guess I feed him enough veggies and fruits that he doesn't need it as much) but he does chew on it sometimes! Even though your guinea pig may not use the wheel, you'll probably end up noticing a few bite marks on it after a few weeks. (So he is using it but not letting you know!)

I am very surprised by these answers! Salt or mineral wheels are absolutely not needed under any circumstances. Their chemical composition can contribute to bladder stones, which are caused by inappropriate Calcium to Phosphorus ratios in their diet, and salt/mineral wheels are VERY high in calcium.
They're unnecessary, and potentially dangerous.

No they are not necessary but you will need to add lots of high vitamine C food because just like humans guinea pigs don't make their own vit C and a lack can affect their health.
Parsly and red pepers are both very high in vitamin C

Yes, you can get salt/mineral wheels, and you can even get flavoured ones.
