There are many techniques to drifting... My bf does it all the time with me in his car in empty parking lots and stuff. Oh yeah I hope you have a RWD and you a good set of suspension and wheels.

1) learn to drive stick
2) learn double clutching
3) learn heel toe
4) learn to read lanes and lines in a track
5) Use ebrake during your first attempts but later you can use the toe-heel to drift.
6) practice makes perfect

Its really hard to explain how to drift. Its mostly you break loose your rear tires by either hitting the breaks, clutch kick, feint, down shifting, etc. Then when you feel your car slipping, you countersteer and gain traction while maintaining a slide (drift). Its a trial and error thing. But you should check out some books and videos. Look at my sources... they will help you have a better understanding but not make you into an automatic drifter or anything.

Source:
1) tells you how to double clutch/toe-heel technique
2) VERY IMPORTANT TO WATCH, its called drift bible and you'll be learn first hand from the drifting legend himself, Keiichi Tsuchiya.
3) book that explains about the sport and the techniques of drifting, its a really good book and it goes into detail about everything, including how to make a drift car.
4) list and description of different drift techniques and some helpful diagrams with angles
5) the history about drifting

Well i hope this helps, but dont kill yourself =) All the time i been hanging out wiht my boyfriend and his friends paid off somehow. hahaha!

Downshift before you get to the curve! Then power through the curve! That is as simple as I can get.
