According to my husband who worked for the Census Bureau for 15 years, a person of mixed race has to decide for themselves which race they most closely associate themselves with, it is their own choice.

A mixed person doesn't really have "a" race he or she has "races" mised people are usually called "Biracial", bi as in 2.
