Im bad about having not seen movies that everyone talks about and just recently i watched Braveheart and the Patriot (im not a big mel gibbson fan) for the first time and they've been 'OMGOSH' movies since they came out! then i was about a month ago i watched 'a few good men' and 'behind enemylines' for the first times.. again, movies that EVERONE loves that i'd never watched before..

what other movies do i really 'need' to see? because alot of stuff i understand better (references in conversations) because of those 4 movies!

Love Acutally, Nottinghill, The Talented Mr. Ripley, The Bourne
Identity and The Bourne Supremacy, Midnight in the Garden of
Good and Evil, Runaway Jury, Spy Game, Moonstruck, Pride
and Prejudice (Keira Knightley version), L.A. Story, Roxanne,
Now Voyager (Betty Davis), Dr. Zivago, The Jackal (Bruce
Willis), Manhattan, Hanna and her Sisters, The Falcon and
The Snowman, Out of Africa, Zorba The Greek, The Great
Gatsby, The Notebook, The Thomas Crown Affair, The Game
(Michael Douglas), Basic Instinct, Damage (Jeremy Irons),
Breakfast at Tiffany's, Roman Holiday, The Graduate, The
World of Suzie Wong, Erin Brockovitch, Barefoot Contessa,
The Blues Brothers, Casino, The Godfather (all of them),
Little Women (Susan Sarandon), A Little Princess, Big,
Goodfellas, Chocolat, Ocean's Eleven, Double Jeopardy
(Ashley Judd), and some great french films: Betty Blue,
Girl on a Bridge, Red, White and Blue (three separate
films in a trillogy), Les Enfant du Paradis (Infants of
Paradise)...all of these have sub-titles that are easy to
read. These are fabulous and I wish I could watch them
all over and over. The most moving have been Schlindler's
List and Sophie's Choice and they will stay in your mind
and heart forever but are very hard to watch.

Super Troopers, Nepoleon Dynomite, Office Space (huge), Matrix (part 1 should suffice), The Godfather's, Dumb and Dumber, Ace Ventura, Clerks (not one I like), Dogma, Gladiator, Jackass Two, Thank You for Smoking, Super Size Me, The Sopranos (pretty big if you have time), Waterworld (the money they spent to make it), Titianic, Citizen Kane, Lucky Number Sleven (Best movie of 2006 in my opinion), Scary Movie (1-4), Transamerica, Mr & Mrs Smith (sexy), Jarhead (great representation of infantry military), The 40 Yearold Vrigin, Schindler's List, Donnie Darko (didn't like it), Million Dollar Baby, Not Another Teen Movie, One or more of M. Night Shamalans movies, 40 Days and 40 Nights, The Shawshank Redemption (awesome), Saving Private Ryan Scarface, Casino, Heat,

Almost all these movies I've heard references to elsewhere.

This list could go on and on. An idea might be to watch the Scary Movie movies with someone who knows a lot about movies. There is a huge reference to movies in them that you should note and watch.

Monty Phython and the Holy Grail. That movie can make inside jokes last for YEARS!!!

If you haven't seen the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, watch them.

Also, watch a few superhero movies (for example: Spiderman, X-Men, ect.)

Casablanca
Gone With the Wind
Magnolia

(Behind Enemy Lines was crap, btw.)

Update: Oops, sorry! Didn't mean to offend. But I think it consists of way too much fantasy war violence, conveniently wicked villains and conveniently heroic American warriors.

But hey, to each his own!
