Do you have to read the Sweet Valley High books in order?

I tried to but usually i could never find the next one so I read out of order and pretty much figured out what happened. You do miss some stuff if you don't though.

you eventually understand it alright if you read it out of order, but it makes a lot more sense if you read it in order

Well, you don't HAVE to....but it makes sense to. They do go in chronological order.
