My husband and I want to name our son Riley Michael, but we've heard it used for a lot of girls. We were wondering if people would assume he's a boy or girl if his name is Riley and how it would "grow" on him. Can you imagine a CEO of a company named Riley?

I just saw that it was #8 for boys in 2006 and somewhere around 15 for girls.

We can't name him Michael Riley because Michael is my brother's and nephew's name.

I have a friend with a little boy named Riley, and wouldn't ever think of it as a girls name now I know him.
It is a good strong name, and yes, I can imagine a CEO of a company called Riley!

I've worked in child care for the last 6 years and when I first started it was more of a boy name and now it's changed to a girl name but a person really could name a boy or a girl Riley. Riley is a name like Chris, Alex, Al, Casey, Pat, Payton, Jo, or Ashley. It can go for boys or girls, it's a unisex name. I think it might depend more on where in the country you live on how a name is used. Rilee or Rilie is for girls Riley is usually for boy although there are exceptions.

It's a very androgynous name, however when I hear it I automatically think of a girl.
I think it's the "lee" sound at the end..it makes it sound more feminine since so many girl's names have that at the end (i.e. Emily, Lily, Kelly, Haylee, etc.)
But, go with what you feel is best. If you love the name Riley for a boy, then that's what you should name him. Maybe you'll know what to name him when you see him. When you look at him for the first time, you might feel that he doesn't seem like a "Riley" to you. Congrats to you both :-)
Here's some other suggestions:

Riley was my first pick for a boys name, but it was shot down pretty quickly. We chose Jacob and then I cried when I found out it was the most popular boys name at the time. (I was named Jennifer in 1980, I found having a popular name to be a pain).
But, I like the name Riley.

Riley is a perfectly good boy name. Girls just recently started being named that. It's not like you're naming him Ashley or something.

I know of two kids named Riley and they are both girls HOWEVER, I considered naming my son Riley because I thought it was really cute and it was a sort of combo of my name and my husbands (Ryan and Holly). Good luck with the naming of your boy!

When I hear the name, I think girl. So I'd say no to it for a boy. Why not switch it to Michael Riley?

Riley is one of those boys names that is "cute" on girls, and now there are rilee's riley's and rylee's everywhere. My sister's cats name is Riley, my friend's rabbits name is Riley (both of those are boys, if it helps :) ) my friend's dog's name is Riley, and I have seen a large number of kids named Riley lately. Both boys and girls. I don't belive that names really affect someone's career outcome.
