Well, if you are a devout Christian, it's inevitable because it has been foretold in the Bible in several places -- there will be a war between good and evil, good will win, the dead shall rise and all shall be judged and either go to Heaven or Hell forever and ever, amen.
If you're more of theologian studying religious practices, Armageddon may be inevitable, but since none of the Bible books (or any of the other religious texts, with perhaps the exception of the Hindu Upanishads) actually give an exact date for the end of days, it's more of a cautionary tale telling us to keep to the straight and narrow if we want to avoid the final cataclysm that ends everything as we know it -- you could read it as avoiding WWIII, or simply the decline of humanity as we devolve into selfish little pigs without dignity or morals.
And if you're an agnostic/atheist, Armageddon simply won't happen, because it's a prophecy and not historical fact. If the human race destroys itself because we simply don't play well with others, it doesn't mean the universe implodes or anything -- we'd just be one small, stupid little species that didn't work out, and nature will simply try again, maybe with cockroaches or something... a very Kafka-esque thought, there...

Armageddon sick of that term. In about 4 billion years, the sun will expand and vaporize the earth. By then, we may live on another planet heated by another sun.

By the time the Sun burns up the Earth, humans will be extinct. No species has survived the 3.5billion years since life developed on this planet and no current species will survive the 4.5billion years left.

Because the spelling in this country has become so atrocious it is an affront to all people everywhere. It will be spellers vs. non-spellers and may the one with the sharpest pencil win.

It's all relative. But total destruction (everyone dead) I do not believe. Man will always survive, but we do have only 4.5 Billion years until the sun explodes and wipes out our solar system. So we gotta start packing now and move away. :)

I would like to know how this question belongs in Earth Sciences and Geology? This is a question about Christianity and the Bible. In the future please restrain yourself from asking questions that have nothing to do with Science.
