Where can I buy a hyena pup of any hyena breed in the United States? I've checked several exotic animal sites and haven't found a thing! Any ideas?

Right, um, apparently people aren't understanding this question. I don't want it for a house pet. I need a hyena as a domestication project.
Do you people even realise that all animals were once exotic?

I don't appreciate rude answers, answer 1.

Hyena's should not be kept in a house as pets. They are wild animals.

Laws wherever you are may not permit you to own one.

Why do dumba** people always look for some "exotic" wild animal??

Wild animals ARE NOT PETS, nor SHOULD they be.

"Where can I buy a hyena pup of any hyena breed in the United States? I've checked several exotic animal sites and haven't found a thing! Any ideas?"-- how is it you're blaming us for not understanding this question properly? It seems pretty plain to me what you're asking. The consensus is that joe schmoes shouldn't have wild animals as pets or even attempt to domesticate them. FYI- domestication DOES NOT HAPPEN overnight or during one pet's lifetime. If you knew anything about what you want to attempt, you wouldn't be asking Yahoo! Answers for tips.

You asked, posters have answered.

You are calling us stupid? You can not do a domestication project on a large carnivore in your lifetime. Domestication takes hundreds of years.
If you are looking to TAME a hyena, and have a permit (federal or state), you should be able to go to any zoo that has breeding hyenas and pick one up, esp if you want a male because most of those are euthanized or sold off cheap.

You know i was just snoopin around and came to this thread...ive had cougars, boars, wolfs and other "WILD" animals as pets he is right as far as all animals were "exotic" well they still are lets say a guy that lives in Africa wantes a copper head snake as a pet well that would be "exotic" to him but for most of us in the states wouldnt consider them "exotic" as a cobra to us something that you would see in africa all the time like we see copper heads lol n e way all animals were at once WILD is what i think was left out and EXOTIC so stop bashing the guy if he wants to get his head riped off then let him be. most mammals can be tamed think about folks who keep tigers, lions, even B-B-BEARS so scary

If you want one for domestication, that would suggest you do want to make it a pet. Nobody NEEDS a hyena, and if you had an appropriate scientific reason for obtaining one, you would have the correct contacts to enable you to do so. You're out of your mind.

I agree with everyone else. Hyenas are to be left alone in the wild. Do you realize how strong their jaws are? They are not a good house pet......
