Believe me, I know how you feel, I went through this with Physics and Calculus. The most important thing is to find a teacher you understand. You could have five private tutors and not be able to understand their teaching methods.
Also, ask questions!!! Especially with math, I would go to tutoring and nod absently for an hour. You're wasting everyone's time if you just sit there waiting for the session to end.
Finding a "study buddy" is what saved me. Preferably someone with looooots of pacience and who knows their stuff. And don't be scared because that'll just make you freeze up during tests.
I'm decent at algebra NOW and could help you if you want to e-mail me. AND I'm a biochemistry major so I can definitely help you with bio! Good luck!

Algebra can be a nightmare. Just try to keep notes of what your tutor shows you.
Talk to your instructor, tell him/her you are struggling............. see what extra help they can offer you. There are some good tutors online, too, if you can't find one at school.
Make sure you work on it every day and ask your tutor all questions you have. If you fail and have to take the class over, it's NOT the end of the world, OK? As I said Math is a nightmare for me too. My first time I got an F, second time I got an A, and then tutored my friend.

Have you tried online math help sites? mathgoodies.com has a homework help forum where you post on the board for whatever course you are taking. They are good about answering quickly and explaining how they got their answers. They will also look over problems that you post and if you show your work, they will tell you exactly where you are making your mistakes and help you fix them.
Other than that, going to office hours and having a tutor are both good things to keep doing. Maybe you could also get with some other students in your same class and find a time to work through homework together and study together before the tests. You might also ask your professor for any advice he/she can give you. If the professor knows you are working as hard as you can, they are more likely to work with you on your grade and help you pass.
Good luck

I took college algebra a year or so ago and got an A. During the first couple of weeks though I was having alot of trouble remembering things and learning the concepts. The best thing you can do is to just try and clear your head of all thats going on in your life and sit down with your math book and slowly read through the chapters you are covering. If there is something you don't understand go to the tutor and ask them...do not let them leave until you understand the concept...it is their job to help you understand. Alot of times I feel to pridefull to ask questions but it's something you have to do to learn. It is defineatly better to go and ask someone that knows the answer that can teach you, than to try and sit there for hours hitting you head against the wall. Just hang in there and work hard. Wish you the best!

You need a tutor! Don't worry, it's still early in the semester. A lot of people feel this way about math. Talk to the prof or the TA, tell them you've been working very hard and still don't get it, and ask them to recommend a tutor. They should be happy you're getting help now instead of waiting until the end of the semester.

I took Astronomy last semester and my teacher didn't teach and it was all math so what I thought was going to be an easy 'A' ended up being one of the hardest "C+" (with a curve) I have ever earned.
