Do you really get a free ipod or laptop...whats the catch?

The "free stuff" ads are scams. What they want you to do is fill out a bunch of surveys, sign up for a bunch of mailing lists, AND get a number of other people to do the same.

If it didn't involve other people, I would say to make your own decision about what you want coming into your inbox and then go for it if you're so inclined. But since it **does** involve other people, my advice is to steer clear ... the free iPod or laptop is **not** worth the amount of ill will you'd generate among your friends by getting them signed up for a cr@pload of spam.

You have to complete and offer and then refer like 6 other people to do an offer. The offers you do are from their sponsors, so then their sponsors give them money so they can afford to give away ipods. For the offer you have to complete there is usually a free trial you can do.
