i know it's about sex but why do they refer to it as the "birds and the bees" and what's being explained???

I believe it has something to do with birds spreading seeds which grow flowers and then the bees pollinate those flowers so it is a colorful way of explaining reproduction.

I'll guess since we both share the gift of not bothering to google it.

Sex is natural.... so are birds and bees... this expression was used to discuss sex as a natural thing to kids and not a debase act of hardcore porn!
