No, it isnt illegal. Its a very inconsiderate and discourteous thing to do but not illegal at all.
Either they smoked in your car, or their clothes have such a strong smoke odor that the smell got into your car. By all means call them (and don't wait for them to call you) and tell your dealer that the car smelled like smoke when you got in it.
I have met some smokers who are dillusional where they think that holding the cigarette outside of the window is keeping the car smoke free even though they take a drag and then blow smoke in the car.

It's not illegal, but it is rude. I think you should mention it. It doesn't have to be a complaint. The manager will probably appreciate the heads up, because someone else may really complain. If someone has really bad allergies or asthma, the dealership could have to eat the cost of detailing the inside of the car and an irate customer.

I would definately report it. if it was actually smoked in while being repaired in the shop, then it's illegal where I live, but if the mechanic did it while on a road test, then no. Although it should be.. I think that may be one of the rudest things I've ever heard of. I would be furious. Definately call them and get them to clean it out.

If its really bothering you, I wouldn't wait until the dealer calls you to mention your concern to them. Call them first and express your concerns... I can't see how it could be illegal, but I can see where it would be a good way to turn off customers from taking a vehicle in to get serviced at their dealership!

I would report it. And if it is bad enough, insist on them paying for an interior detailing by a detailer of your choice. It the manager of the service center cares at all about customer service, he should comply. Otherwise, why risk all of the potential bad word of mouth he will no doubt receive? this would irk the hell out of me.

I doubt they smoked in your car.I've been in the buisiness 15 years and have never heard of such a thing. They probably took a smoke break right before pulling out your car.If they smoked in it you should be able to find evidence of ashes somewhere in it.Be sure before you get your mechanic in trouble, because they'll remember you and future repairs might end up costing a little more than they should.

I've seen folks be real sensitive towards cig smoke. Chances are if you tell them on their callback, they can 'zero' the guy who lights up. Smokers aren't hard to spot. If nothing else, it'll be fun to see them squirm. Perhaps do it in person, try to get the persons who were in direct contact with your car on that day... It could be fun!

Yeah, I It is your hard earned money. If you are not happy then I would let them know. Also I am sure the manager would rather hear your complaint so he can make it right rather than lose your business
