Dawson should get in next year and so should Jim Rice.

Andre Dawson was a very good player for many years. Unfortunately for him, the Hall of Fame is only for the great. Although he has several statistics that are close to the best, he falls just short of being recognised as elite. Also for this reason, Ron Santo will most likely be overlooked also. Santo had a fine career and played very well but once again, is not noted as a GREAT player. That's why the HOF is so hard to get into. Its only for the very best!

No.And neither will Santo.Dawson doesn't have the stats to get in.I'm still curious about that MVP award. The Cubs finished last that year so how valuable was he?Could they have finished lower than last without him?
As for Santo - his stats are in the same range with other 3rd basemen of his era.The biggest difference is that Santo never played in the postseason and that counts against him.
These two will only be in the Cub Fans Hall Of Fame.

initially, that's the hall of "popularity" and not the hall of "benefit". there are various greater components as nicely stats that bypass into deserving to be in the hall of popularity. Dawson and Rice have been dominating gamers who did some intangible issues as nicely as putting up large numbers. Out of the others you point out, Lee Smith grew to become right into a dominating closer and that i'm unsure why he isn't in the two. Bert Blyleven had some stable years and a few undesirable years yet very almost merits it for longetivity. Don Mattingly has a solid participant, yet whilst he gets in, then Keith Hernandez could be in too (and that i could rank Hernandez only before Mattingly in terms of impact). Roberto Alomar grew to become into stored out because of the fact of a pair of issues that he did in his profession (spitting on an umpire, enjoying completely with none pastime or rigidity on the top of his profession) that delivered approximately many sportswriters protesting by using no longer balloting him in as a familiar pollhall of famer.

No, I'm afraid. He was a fine Cubs player, but not HOF quality. If Ronnie Santo can't get in, Andre sure won't.

I believe Dawson will make it eventually. Santo is a bit more of a longshot, so I doubt it.

It will be tough for him but he should be, there was no one like him when he was in his prime...problem is too many voters remember those last few years that he bounced around.

He and Mattingly should go in together but that may not happen!

I think he should but although he was a very good player he was not a superstar. It keeps getting harder and harder as time goes on for just a good player to get in.
