listening is simply opening yourself up to receive verbal communication or sounds from another person or thing.

Close mouth....open ears. Put opinions on the back burner and listen to their side first. No prejudice can be involved. Sometimes just listening and not saying a word is the best medicene next to humor!!!

Listening to me is making an effort to pay attention to what you are 'hearing' - the sounds that are registering into the canels of your ears. However, listening also refers to 'hearing' with the intention of 'doing'. A good listener will pay attention to what he is hearing and respond accordingly.
