Yeah some people don't know how to drive....mostly four wheelers.
I wear a helmet if I'm on a bike or quad.... I have had three major accidents with motorcycles and none of them were my fault. I would be not alive today after my last one...I still have the helmet as a reminder...it's half crushed with a tire track of an SUV across it. If you feel lucky...don't wear one. It'll give you something to think about while you're sucking you supper through a straw.

No motorbikes dont need helmets, the riders do as thier heads turn to mush when hitting something solid!.

You can be the best rider in the world and still some mutha forka will uin your day cuz they needed to drive the car above the speed limit whilst changing cd's, reading a book, reading a map, or talking on the phone.
You can not predict the stupidity and self absorbed arogance of people who think they can do what the fork they like whilst driving a car.(im a good driver- say all!)

yes to both. Many traffic fatalities that happen involving a motorcycle rider are actually caused by someone else. Because motorcycles are so much smaller, many times they arent seen. Obviously in high speed crashes a helmet may not do anything as body trauma can be huge, but slower speed accidents and accidents in which the rider are thrown, a helmet will many times make the difference between life, brain damage or death. Many people take the stand that its their lives. Well, if they have a preventable injury, ie head injury, and they are taking up a spot in a hospital, then it is affecting everyone else who may need the bed space. An yes, there are plenty who dont know how to ride.

It's not the point of knowing how to ride, it's the point of some punk kid or old lady not paying attention to where they're going, pulling out in front of you or cutting you off is the problem.
Helmets have been proven to reduce head injury in a wreck, no way to argue that. A high speed wreck, you're screwed anyway, but I'll take the option of having an open casket though.
I live in Florida, strange here that they pass a law for seat belts but allow no helmets. Seems like a personal thing on both accounts doesn't it.
There is a law that no one follows here that you are supposed to have 10K worth of insurance on you if you don't wear a helmet, cost of the ambulance service and body bag I guess.
I use a face shield and I've caught to many rocks and bugs in the
shield that would have knocked me off the bike. And the argument of vision being reduced is crap. I can see as much out of an open face helmet as someone without one.
If they don't want to wear one, that's their choice, I'll never tell them otherwise.

I live in a choice state. After weighing the pros and cons to helmet use, I have chosen not to wear a helmet. I enjoy the wind in my face, the wind in my hair, being out there with the elements and having better peripheral vision than with a helmet. I also don't like the false sense of security that helmets give some riders. These riders seem to take more chances and drive less defensively. Also, there have been instances where a rider would have been more seriously injured in an accident had he/she been wearing a helmet. At a higher rate of speed impact you are more likely to be killed from massive internal injuries. Wearing a helmet won't really matter. I don't think helmets are necessary, but if a rider prefers a false sense of security, then by all means wear a skid lid. I would not fault anyone for wearing one and I would hope no one would fault me for not wearing one.

All of you who say that helmets aren't necessary until you get into a crash are ABSOLUTELY WRONG AND obviously have little or no experience riding motorcycles for extended periods.
First off, all kinds of bugs and crap get all over you when riding, especially in the summer. Rocks, road debris, you name it, can get in your eyes, nose and mouth while riding. Why the hell would you want to take that chance?? Some gravel in your eye that causes you to go offroad and have a piss your pants moment will change your thinking really quick.

No, they are necessary on your head. Are you saying that Valentino Rossi doesn't know how to ride because he wears a helmet? I guarantee that 23-year old punk could smoke you while riding a scooter, Junior.

Everyone should wear a helmet except you. Your skull is obviously thick enough that nothing ever gets inside, so it's probably harder than concrete.

They're only necessary if you crash. The trouble is, there is no predicting when you will crash. Any rider who claims he knows with absolute certainty that there will be no boneheaded car driver pulling out from an intersection, no unexpected patch of oil in a curve, no unexpected surprises falling off a truck - that's not a good rider but a delusional one.

Most motorcycle wrecks are caused by auto drivers. So your answer is that some people don't know how to drive.
That's why I wear a helmet when I ride.

Helmet laws suck.

Dress for the crash, not the ride..... because there are ALWAYS drunk/distracted drivers out there to run you over. My drunk hit me at 10am on a Saturday morning... without gear, I wouldn't have ridden my fairly mangled bike home. That helmet looked like it'd been tossed in a cement mixer with a load of gravel. 35mph crash too... so not even fast.
