A talisman is mainly for protection. They are usually obtained from a fetish priest after some rituals have been conducted.

This also implies that the wearer of the talisman should believe in the power of the fetish from whose priest the talisman was obtained.

There are various types of talismans or talismen, don't know the right form of the plural, some confer supernatural strength, protection from bullets or the power for the wearer to become invisible among other things.
