-knitting a scarf is sooo much fun!!!!! you can buy crazy different types of yarns and they make an awesome personal gift that the receiver will actually use.

-knitting ipod socks, is also really cool (buying tham online (30$) is also fine but i know you want something handmade).

-another cute gift idea is to buy large white letters of the recievers initails and paint cute stripes and dots on them.

-also, you can go to michaels, buy a 12 inch tall manikan (from waist to neck) and cut out words of magazines, and paste them on and paint with glaze. this is an awesome gift so the person can hang necklaces or accessories on them on their dresser.

-a batch of home-baked snickerdoodles

-a ribbon belt: buy some ribbon, and stitch it all together, buy d-rings, and so on. i bet you could find instructions on the internet

-make your own jar of hotchocolate mix: put in cocoa powder, powdered milk, crush canycanes or mints, hershey kisses, and cinnamon or make ur own recipe so ur receiver can heat this up on a hot day and enjoy.

-sew a pillow together with silk material and use stringed beads for a fringe

If you have a sewing machine, making a pillow only takes about an hour once you have the hang of it.

You can make a throw pillow as if the cover were a sham so you can wash it periodically. Use different colors on it to be creative, do patchwork on it, whatever. Measure it out and then when you make the back of it, use two pieces, example your pillow is 14x14... the material you use should be 15x 10 and 15x8 so that they overlap each other.

You can also do picture pillows which make great gifts!

Glass etching is so easy and fun. Take a very plain, inexpensive vase or fish bowl and cover it carefully in clear Contac paper then draw simple designs on it with a thick black marker. Use a craft knife to cut away the designs. Once you have removed the designs, burnish down the edges of the remaining plastic covering using the flat of your fingernail or a craft stick. Apply Amor-Etch glass etching creme to all the negative spaces and leave on for about two minutes then rinse off all the creme from the vase under cold water in the sink ( Wear gloves...the creme is caustic). Peel away the Contac paper, then wash and dry the vase. You are left with a one-of-a-kind vessel that you can fill with colored water and your own floral arrangement or fill with colored floral marbles and nestle a pretty pillar candle inside.

My daughter was on a really tight budget this year for christmas, but wanted to be able to give some kind of gifts to family and friends. She bought a case of quart mason jars, and layered 17 kinds of dried beans in them. Stuck in a little baggie with the spice mix in it, and tied a piece of raffia around the jar lid with instructions for cooking the bean soup. It was really pretty and made a lot of gifts (12) fairly inexpensive. You can google "15 bean soup recipe" and come up with a lot of different recipes.

Right now I'm making cloth covered books, bookmarks, and cards.
Buy some cheap glass jars for votive candles and paint them.
I got ones that look like tiny flower pots at Walmart for 44 cents each.
Tin punch some empty food cans, paint them, and add candles.

Depends on who it's for of course. Jewelry like earrings, necklaces or bracelets. Baskets of stuff, like coffee and a couple mugs or hot choc. with a scarf or two. Or a romantic one with a couple chapagne glasses with a champagne or wine and candles. Could do anything for baskets. Scarfs are easy to do. Or picture frames. Good luck.

i totally agree with the iPod sock; you can look up the dimensions of the iPod online, and knit/crochet the cozy to fit. i just made one, and it turned out AWESOME.

also, you can burn a mix CD of your favorite music for the person, if they're into that kind of stuff.

another good one is to bake cookies. what you could do is get alphabet cookie cutters and spell out the person's name or whatever the occasion is!
