I heard tons of bad stories with Detroit, people getting shot for nothing in their car waiting for a light...are all these crazy stories true?

Life long resident of Metro Detroit. Unlike other major cities Detroit has a very small downtown area with bars,resturants, etc. This city is trying it's best to rebuild but it will take some time. The bad neighborhoods in Detroit are like land mines spread throughout the city. Depends on where you are but overall I would say the city is not the greatest to live in esp if you are white.

my hubby and i went there over the summer to see a tigers game. i will admit i was nervous about going, we stayed in greektown overnight which is right near commerica park. we were on a baseball tour and went to 6 cities in all, i have to say detroit was my favorite place we went..the people were great and friendly, the stadium was amazing...after the game we went gambling and met some really nice people. i would go to detroit again in a second.

Unfortunately, it is true; no matter where you go in the world there is going to be a neighborhood that is considered unsafe and people get shot for much less than nothing

I think it does sound like a bad place to live.
an equivalent experience would be my old HS. There were always physical fights almost every day.

Kinda, but that guy that shot all of those people was mentally ill. That doesn't really excuse it but they shouldn't have sold him the gun in the first place.
