Well for the first 1000-3000 miles they recommend not using the O/D or the cruise control as the engine is being "broken in" so that the computer learns your driving and you end up with the best fuel mileage.

O/D is simply this, gas saving normal driving. When it is off it holds you in a gear longer to get more power from the car. If you are accelerating onto a highway ramp, switching the overdrive off can allow you to get up to speed faster. Also can be used when passing a person as it may downshift and again, hold the gear longer for more oomph.

Typically your overdrive is always on unless you switch it off through a button on the shifter. This again gives you the best mileage and normal driving habits of your car.

You don't need to do anything special just put it in Drive, the Automatic transmission will looking after it by itself.

The only time you want to turn the Overdrive off is to use it for the Engine Brake or gear down for acceleration.

Nah.. drive it overdrive. You will be fine. You only want to come out of overdrive into regular drive if you are towing a trailer.
