I know what they are but I have a more specific question.
I am buying one for someone as a gift and I would like to have some music downloaded onto it when I give it to him. My brother said if I download the music from MY computer, then if I ever get an ipod, I wont be able to download music from the same computer to that one. Is that true?

Yes you will be able to download music to any ipod becuase when you hook any ipod up to your computer, Itunes will tell you all the songs on it and you can add or delete songs.
