... "are you talking to me"...? simply this one don... Robert De Niro is one of the greatest actors around today.
Mel & Johnny are fine actors, Slys ok very entertaining, Arny & Vandame... come on, mentioning those makes you think there all in the same league as De Niro, but DeNiro is in a league of his own... & quite simply on of the best actors around.

Good question, bad comparisons...
Vandame- Hell no! Actor??
Arnold - Only when he's playing a machine..
Sly - He's alright.. nothing to go crazy about
Deniro- Definitely a great actor. However, didn't pull off the horror flick genre too well.
Mel Gibson- I like the way he acts, but he's pretty much Mel Gibson in every movie he does. Much like Nicolas Cage. Both act very well, but not very versatile..
So, I would have to go with Johnny Depp. He's shown that he is one of the most versatile actors of his time. He can turn a crap movie into something that is some-what watchable. He couldn't save "The Astronat's Wife" (even though I thought is Elvis impression was great), but who could?

I'm torn between Mel Gibson and Johnny Depp. Robert Di Niro's also very good. These three should not be put in the same company as vandamme, arnold and sly. The latter three suck although sly has some redeeming movies to his name.I just can't think of them right now.But it has to be Johnny Depp-the guy was nominated for an oscar. You should have put brad pitt as johnny's talent is undisputable.

Just to be different I'm gonna say that my favourite is Arnold Schwarzenegger! As an action actor he was brilliant in Commando & Predator. Van Damne had a few cheesy action movies that were pretty good. Syllvester Stallone is fantastic as Rocky. Mel Gibson was great in Lethal Weapon & Mad Max. Johnny Depp has brought alot to the role of "Jack Sparrow". The best serious actor has to be Robert De Niro! That was until he sold his soul to comedy!

What MAKES a good actor? The ability to act the parts of the characters they portray?
If so then the best of them is Johnny Depp. In all honesty he is the most VARIED of the lot.
Sly is always Rocky WHATEVER he plays. Van Damme cannot lose his accent nor can Arnold. Robert de Niro and Mel Gibson are grand but again- marginally "type-cast".
So- JD is the actor who stands out. Who else can play Edward Scissorhand, Willy Wonka AND Jack Sparrow and not be recognisable as the same man?

Well you can get rid of sky, Arnie and van damn. They are not 'real' actors, they are muscle men who became actors. Although I enjoy what they do, I don't think they could handle the really serious stuff.
Mel Gibson is an OK actor, but I don't think he could handle anything too taxing. He has gone down in my estimation now it turns out he is a racist.
De Nero is a great actor, but I think he is limited to the parts he plays. Depp is a very versatile actor. He has played some great roles but I don't think we have seen the best from him.
In conclusion I would say De Nero is the best but I think Depp will be considered the better actor when he reaches old age. I think he will get more challenging rolls and prove how versatile he is in the years to come.

It's a tie between Johnny Depp& Robert De Niro. Mel can kinda act. the other two came from the bottom of my shoe

Without a doubt~Robert De Niro!! Followed by Mel Gibson, who would be about 1/2 mile behind. Robert is great!!

Definitely Deniro. Vandame can't act to save his life...maybe it's the accent.
I like Arnold...i still laugh at Twins.
Johnny Depp is good at playing wild wacky roles.
Sly's Rocky Balboa is his best film for me!!
Gibson's australian........never mind!!
