My new manager has come up with a paper for my department to sign.He says that he can switch our days, shifts or weekends as he wishes. If we refuse to sign and agree to this,he can terminate our employment..Some of us have kids and day care isn't open at night and days are all some can work. So, how can he do this? no other department is doing this.Need feed back from employers/HR reps out there. Thanks!

The only contract I signed 7 years ago was for 40 hr work week and The hours/days that I chose to work.I can not change my shift or weekends for family reasons..I have had trouble with this manager before. We do not have a union.I work in a hospital and my job is in housekeeping. We are not like the Nurses who have to be there under their contract.

Most states are -at will- working states. Plainly put, they can fire you for just about anything. It is almost impossible to prove wrongful termination in court, especially if you refused to comply with work rules/requirements. Regardless of that you might hear you employer doesn't HAVE to employ you.

Sorry to say but there isn't much you can do.

Are you under a contract? Did you sign anything when you started there that states what he is saying to be the truth?

check with your HR

I have never heard of such a thing. I would check into this a little further. Try calling your local Labor and Relations Board to ask them some questions.

no he can't fire you for anything that is not in the policy. Don't sign nothing if you don't agree with it. tell him you need a copy of it to take to your attorney and see what he does. tell him you was told by your attorney that this is not legal and you may have a law suit if he fires you and you need that copy. I bet he changes the rules. They tried that to me in a nursing home once to fire us if we didn't sign a paper and they found out from the attorney that they were wrong and things changed and we never had to sign nothing

I think you can. Because by not signing the paper you are basicly saying you won't work when they need you to work. I live in Colorado and they can fire you for no reason. I work in a hospital and I hve to work when they need me.

Well if you live in NJ they can fire you for no reason! It sucks. Are you in a union. If you are I would be going to them ASAP. If not I think it is time you look for a new job! :(

if it only comes from the dept head no if it is a comp. wide thing you will need to contact HR on the issue .. if you work in a major Co. then No No No its a Friday ploy to f- people over and to scare everyone if you don't have a HR dept call a attorney most all of them will just tell you the same and or give you the same advice NEVER TRUST A FRIDAY MEMO OR A MONDAY ONE EITHER unless you have already hear of it and have knowen about it in advance !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
