It is a human reaction. It does happen in real life but not very often because of the face to face interaction. On the net, you can be as unpleasant as you like and not have to face the consequences of your actions. So,those who are unable to maintain a real life relationship take it out on people here. Those who are failures belittle people here to make themselves feel better about their failings. And the anonymity protects them from their actions.

I think it has something to do with keeping the brush cleared away from the feet of those giants out there so they have a clear path when they walk over every one .
