Your kitties shouldn't be too concerned with the fox and vise versa. Sometimes cats and foxes actually play together! If your kitties are not updated on their shots, they should be, you never know what their new friend might drag from the woods!
If you are really concerned you can call Animal Control (sometimes that is your local Animal Shelter). If you aren't sure what the number is to your local Animal Control you can call your local Animal Shelter and ask them.
When I use to work at my local Animal Shelter we were also Animal Control and we'd actually loan out traps to people that wanted to catch, humanely, pests from their yards (usually involved bunnies but we had some very large traps for bigger game).
If you do deciede to place a trap, make sure all your kitties are accounted for! You don't want to accidently trap your own cat!

foxes do not typically attack cats. They might go after a small kitten, but a cat is a pretty good match for a fox, about the same size and weight. Actually most cats probably outweigh a fox. It will most likely keep it distance from the cats, as your cats will most likely avoid it. I have heard a couple of accounts where foxes and cats have actually been known to hang out together, and play together.

I would not worry too much about a fox getting the cats. We have foxes and cats at our place. A cat is too much work for a fox. The fox will leave them alone unless there is something wrong with the fox or something wrong with the cat. If the fox is wounded and is desparate, then who knows. If the cat is wounded and can't get away then the fox will see it as fair play.
Back home, I know it is cliche, we have problems with foxes getting chickens. The biggest danger to our cats is coyotes.

The only way to keep a fox away is to get a dog. Otherwise there is really nothing to do to scare it away. However most cats are too big of prey for a fox as long as they are larger than a rabbit.

It is extremely rare for a fox to harm a domestic cat. Foxes like to conserve their energy & won't bother with an animal that is too difficult to catch. A friend of mine told me that she has seen her cats PLAYING with the foxes that frequent their property!

I m not sure a fox will prey on a cat. I think foxes like mice and small rabbits.

Rent a cat trap and bate it with some food. Once the fox is trapped, you can take it and release it by a river where it can live happily with all the other wild critters.

So, bring the cats inside. Cats shouldn't be allowed outside anyway, so problem solved! http://www.hsus.org/press_and_publications/humane_society_magazines_and_newsletters/all_animals/volume_4_issue_1_spring_2002/a_safe_cat_is_a_happy_cat_and_your_cat_is_only_safe_indoors.html
