If you do it nicely, they'll keep following you around. Why do you need to be nice? I don't get it. Just be direct and to the point. You don't have to be mean.

Thats not wierd it's called stalking.
Three easy steps:
Ask them to stop or else you'll call the police
Call the police (have them talk to whoever is following you)
Get a restraining order (which is done through the court not the cops)
I've had seven stalkers this works like a charm. Usually they stop after step 2. Make sure you don't contact them in any way or else it will hurt your case to get the restraining order.

I'm not sure that there's truly a "nice" way to tell someone that. You just need to tell him/her "Please stop following me around. I don't like it." Take the straightforward approach and don't beat around the bush, because that's a recipe for misunderstanding and misinterpretation.
